Berhampur is a city located in the Ganjam district of the state of Odisha. The name has been recently changed to Brahmapur also nicknamed as “The silk city”. The city is about 169 kilometers south of Bhubaneswar which is the state capital of Odisha. Brahmapur got the status of a corporation after Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. According to the 2011, the estimated the population of the Berhampur is 355,823 which makes it the fourth most populous city in the Odisha state and 58th in India. The Berhampur Municipal Corporation administers this urban city.

Berhampur city is administered by the Berhampur Municipal Corporation. It was earlier a municipality from 1867 to December 2008. Berhampur Municipal Corporation is a local body Constituted by the Government of Odisha. It functions as Municipal Corporation and was established from 29.12.2008. All the rules and regulation of the Government is applicable to the employees of the BMC. The BMC or the Berhampur Municipal Corporation comprises of 34 maouzas with an area of 39.07 sq K.M and population of as per 2011 census.
